L'homme qui parlait 9 langues

Matthew Youlden parle 9 langues couramment et en comprend 12 de plus. Comme on travaille dans le même bureau à Berlin, je l’entends constamment passer d’une langue à une autre tel un caméléon qui change de couleurs. En fait, pendant très longtemps je ne me suis même pas rendu compte qu’il était anglais.
Quand j’ai raconté à Matthew mes difficultés pour apprendre ne serait-ce qu’une seconde langue, il m’a donné plusieurs conseils. Si vous pensez que vous ne pourrez jamais devenir bilingue, lisez bien la suite !
1. AYEZ DE BONNES SOURCES DE MOTIVATION
Cela peut paraître évident pour beaucoup, mais si vous n’avez pas une bonne raison d’apprendre une langue, vous aurez moins de chances de rester motivé sur le long terme. Essayer d’impressionner des anglophones avec votre français n’est, par exemple, pas une très bonne source de motivation; par contre apprendre le français pour pouvoir communiquer avec des français dans leur langue maternelle est une excellente raison d’apprendre une langue. Peu importe vos motivations, une fois que vous avez choisi la langue que vous voulez apprendre, il est crucial de s’engager à ne pas lâcher : “OK, j’ai décidé d’apprendre cette langue et je vais faire tout mon possible pour qu’elle envahisse mon quotidien.”
2. IMMERGEZ-VOUS DANS LA LANGUE
Bon, une fois que vous vous êtes engagé, comment faire ? Y a-t-il une façon d’apprendre qui soit plus efficace qu’une autre ? Matthew recommande l’approche “360°” : peu importe la méthode utilisée, il faut pratiquer une nouvelle langue tous les jours. “J’ai tendance à absorber autant que possible dès le départ. Si j’ai décidé d’apprendre une langue, j’y vais à fond et j’essaie de l’utiliser un peu tous les jours. Au fur et à mesure que les jours passent, j’essaie de penser, écrire et même de me parler à moi même dans cette langue. Pour moi, il s’agit avant tout de mettre en pratique ce que j’ai appris - que ce soit dans un email, en me parlant à moi-même, en écoutant de la musique ou la radio. S’entourer, s’immerger dans la culture associée à cette langue est extrêmement important.“ Rappelez-vous que la meilleure chose qui puisse arriver lorsque vous essayez de parler une langue étrangère, c’est que l’on vous réponde dans cette langue. Être capable d’avoir ne serait-ce qu’une conversation simple est une récompense incroyable.
Atteindre un objectif tel que celui-ci assez rapidement permet de rester motivé et de continuer à pratiquer: “Je garde toujours à l’esprit qu’adapter ma façon de penser à celle des natifs de cette langue est la clé du succès. Bien sûr, il n’y a pas une seule manière de penser correspondant à tous les hispanophones, à tous les hébréophones ou à tous les néerlandophones, mais le but est d’utiliser la langue apprise comme un outil pour construire votre univers linguistique, avec ses codes et spécificités.”
3. TROUVEZ VOUS UN PARTENAIRE
Matthew a appris plusieurs langues avec son frère jumeau Michael (ils ont commencé par apprendre le grec ensemble quand ils étaient à peine âgés de 8 ans !) Les “Frères Polyglottes” Michael et Matthew ont acquis leurs super-pouvoirs sous l’effet d’une petite compétition entre frères : “On se motive l’un l’autre. On se pousse mutuellement à toujours en faire plus. Si l’un d’entre nous réalise que l’autre est meilleur dans une langue, alors il devient un peu jaloux et s’emploie à le surpasser, et vice-versa. C’est peut-être parce qu’on est jumeaux…” Même si vous n’avez pas de frère ou soeur pour s’allier à votre conquête linguistique, n’importe quel autre partenaire vous aidera à rester motivé et vous poussera à vous améliorer de la même façon. “Je pense que c’est une très bonne technique. Pouvoir parler avec quelqu’un est le but but de tout apprentissage d’une langue.”
4. RENDEZ L’APPRENTISSAGE UTILE
Si parler est votre but premier, vous avez moins de chance de vous perdre dans les manuels d’apprentissage sans vraiment avancer. Parler avec d’autres personnes permettra de conserver votre intérêt pour la langue: “On apprend une langue pour être capable de l’utiliser, et non pour la garder pour soi. Là où il faut être créatif, c’est pour l’utiliser au quotidien. Cela peut être pour écrire une chanson, juste essayer de parler à des natifs de la langue, ou communiquer lorsque vous êtes à l’étranger. Ceci-dit vous n’êtes pas obligé d’aller à l’étranger pour pratiquer; vous pouvez par exemple aller au restaurant grec en bas de chez vous et commander en grec.“
5. AMUSEZ-VOUS
Utilisez vos connaissance
s de manière créative. Les Frères Polyglottes, Matthew et Michael, ont mis en pratique leur grec en écrivant et en enregistrant des chansons dans cette langue. Cherchez des façons amusantes de pratiquer la langue que vous apprenez : créez une pièce de théâtre radiophonique avec un ami ou une bande dessinée, écrivez un poème ou parlez simplement à qui vous voulez. Si vous ne trouvez pas un moyen de vous amuser dans cette langue, il y a des chances que vous ne remplissiez pas les conditions de l’étape numéro 4.6. COMPORTEZ VOUS COMME UN ENFANT
Cela ne veut pas dire qu’il faut commencer à faire des caprices dans un magasin ou vous mettre de la nourriture dans les cheveux lorsque vous mangez au restaurant, mais essayez d’apprendre de la même façon que le font les enfants. L’idée selon laquelle les enfants ont de meilleures capacités d’apprentissage que les adultes tient de la légende. De récents travaux de recherche n’ont mis en évidence aucune corrélation directe entre l’âge et la capacité d’apprentissage. La clé pour apprendre aussi vite qu’un enfant est peut-être tout simplement d’adopter des attitudes enfantines: par exemple en évitant de se prendre trop au sérieux, en jouant avec la langue et en n’ayant pas peur de faire des fautes. C’est en faisant des fautes que l’on apprend. Or ces fautes qui sont tout à fait acceptées chez les enfants deviennent taboues à l’âge adulte. Pensez au nombre de fois où vous avez entendu un adulte dire “je ne sais pas” (je ne sais pas nager, je ne sais pas conduire, je ne sais pas parler espagnol…) à la place de “je n’ai pas encore appris à le faire pour l’instant”. Être pris à faire des erreurs est un tabou social par lequel les enfants ne se sentent pas concernés. Quand on apprend une langue, admettre que l’on ne sait pas tout (et l’accepter) est la clé de la réussite. Débarassez-vous donc de vos inhibitions d’adulte !
7. QUITTEZ VOTRE ZONE DE CONFORT
Une fois que l’on accepte de faire des erreurs, il faut aussi accepter de se mettre dans des situations potentiellement inconfortables. Cela peut intimider au départ, mais c’est la seule façon de faire des progrès. Peu importe le nombre d’heures que vous passez à étudier la langue, vous ne pouvez pas parler une langue sans vous lancer dans la pratique : parlez à des étrangers dans cette langue, demandez votre chemin, commandez au restaurant, essayez de raconter une blague à vos interlocuteurs. A chaque fois que vous vous lancez dans ce type d’interactions, votre zone de confort s’élargit peu à peu et vous gagnez en assurance dans la langue d’apprentissage : “Au début vous rencontrez toujours quelques difficultés : peut-être au niveau de la prononciation, ou de la grammaire, ou de la syntaxe. Peut-être même que vous ne comprenez pas bien toutes les expressions. Mais je crois que le plus important est que vous développiez une intuition pour la langue. Les locuteurs natifs d’une langue ont une certaine intuition pour leur langue maternelle, et c’est principalement ce qui fait d’eux des locuteurs natifs : ils se sont appropriés leurs langues et la parlent par intuition.”
8. ÉCOUTEZ
Il faut apprendre à regarder avant d’apprendre à dessiner. Il en va de même pour l’apprentissage des langues. N’importe quelle langue vous paraît étrange la première fois que vous l’entendez, mais plus vous l’entendez, plus vous vous familiarisez avec ses sons et plus il devient facile de parler : “Nous sommes capables physiologiquement de prononcer tous les sons, même si nous n’en avons pas l’habitude. Par exemple, le R “roulé” n’existe sous aucune forme en anglais. Quand j’ai commencé à apprendre l’espagnol, j’ai dû apprendre à prononcer des mots avec ce fameux “R roulé” comme “perro” et “reunión”. Pour moi, le meilleur moyen de maîtriser la prononciation d’un mot difficile est de l’entendre constamment, de l’écouter et d’essayer de visualiser ou d’imaginer la façon dont il doit être prononcé, car chaque son correspond à une partie bien spécifique de la bouche ou de la gorge que nous utilisons pour le prononcer.”
9. REGARDEZ LES AUTRES PARLER
La mobilisation de la langue, des lèvres et de la gorge varie en fonction de la langue que l’on parle. La prononciation a des implications autant physiques que mentales : “Une bonne manière de travailler sa prononciation - aussi bizarre que cela puisse paraître - est d’observer avec attention quelqu’un qui prononce un mot utilisant le son en question, et ensuite faire de son mieux pour imiter ce son. Ce n’est peut-être pas évident au départ, mais vous y parviendrez au final. Ce n’est qu’une histoire d’entraînement.” Si vous n’avez pas l’occasion d’observer et d’imiter un locuteur natif en direct, alors pensez à regarder des films ou la TV en langue étrangère. Cela pourra vous aider de la même façon.
10. PARLEZ-VOUS
Quand il n’y a personne autour de vous à qui parler, pourquoi ne pas vous parler à vous-même ? “Cela peut paraître très bizarre, mais parler tout seul une langue que vous apprenez est une très bonne façon de vous entraîner si vous n’avez pas l’occasion de l’utiliser régulièrement.” Cela vous permet de garder votre vocabulaire en tête et cela vous donne confiance en vous en attendant la prochaine opportunité de parler la langue avec quelqu’un.
(Bonus) DÉTENDEZ-VOUS !
Vous n’allez pas agacer vos interlocuteurs en faisant des fautes lorsque vous parlez leur langue. Si vous entamez une conversation en expliquant que vous êtes en train d’apprendre et que vous aimeriez pratiquer, la plupart des gens serons patients, encourageants, et heureux de vous aider. Même s’il y a environ un milliard de personnes qui on appris l’anglais dans le monde, la plupart d’entre eux préféreraient parler leur langue maternelle avec vous s’ils en ont le choix. Si vous prenez l’initiative de parler dans sa langue il y a des chances pour que cela mette votre interlocuteur à l’aise, en plus de vous rendre très sympathique à ses yeux : “bien sûr que l’on peut voyager à l’étranger sans connaître la langue du pays, mais votre expérience du pays sera décuplée si vous pouvez vous sentir à l’aise partout où vous allez - être capable de communiquer, comprendre et être acteur de chaque situation dans lesquelles vous vous trouverez.”
APPRENDRE OK, MAIS DANS QUEL BUT ?
Après s’être penché sur le “comment”, encore faut-il savoir “pourquoi” on apprend une langue ? Matthew a un dernier commentaire à ce sujet : “A mon avis, chaque langue possède une façon différente de voir le monde. Parler une nouvelle langue ouvre la possibilité d’adopter des visions du monde quelque peu différente de la notre. Même pour des langues aussi proches que l’espagnol et le portugais, qui sont d’une certaine façon mutuellement intelligibles, il y a des différences de mentalités et des façons de voir le monde quelque peu différentes. C’est pourquoi, maintenant que j’ai appris plusieurs langues, je ne pourrai jamais n’en choisir qu’une seule car cela voudrait dire que je renonce à la possibilité d’accéder à plusieurs visions du monde. Vivre en ne parlant qu’une seule langue est pour moi la façon la plus triste et ennuyeuse de voir le monde. Il y a tellement d’avantages liés à l’appentissage d’une langue; je ne vois vraiment pas quelle raison on pourrait avoir pour ne pas le faire.”

LOVE WILL GROW COLD
And because lawlessness – iniquity will
abound, the love of many will grow cold. But
he who endures to the end shall be saved
(Matt 24:12-13).

as a witness to all nations, and then the end
will come (Matt 24:14; Mk 13:10).
ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION IN
JERUSALEM
But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by
armies, then know that its desolation is near
(Lk 21:20). Therefore when you see the
abomination of desolation spoken by Daniel
the prophet, standing in the holy place
(whoever reads, let him understand), then let
those who are in Judea flee to the mountains,
let those who are in the midst of her depart,
and let not those who are in the country enter
her. Let him who is on the housetop not come
down into the house nor enter to take anything
out of his house. And let him who is in the field
not go back to get his clothes (Matt 24:15-18; Mk
13:14-16; Lk 17:31; 21:21). But woe to those who
are pregnant and to those who are nursing
babies in those days! And pray that your flight
may not be in the winter or on the Sabbath
(Matt 24:19-20; Mk 13:17-18; Lk 21:23). And they
will fall by the sword, and be led away captive
into the nations. And Jerusalem will be
trampled by Gentiles until the times of the
Gentiles are fulfilled (Lk 21:24).

TIME OF JACOB'S TROUBLE (Jer 30:6-7)
For in those days there will be great
tribulation and great distress, such as has not
been from the beginning of creation which God
created until this time, nor ever shall be in the
land and wrath upon this people. And unless
the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh
would be saved. But for the elect's sake whom
He chose, those days will be shortened (Matt
24:21-22; Mk 13:19-20; Lk 21:23). But these are the
days of vengeance, that all things which are
written may be fulfilled (Lk 21:22).
FALSE CHRISTS & PROPHETS
Then if anyone says to you, Look, here
is the Christ or Look, He is there! Do not believe
it. For false Christs and false prophets will arise
and show great signs and wonders, so as to
deceive, if possible even the elect. But take
heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand
(Matt 24:23-24; Mk 13:21-23). Therefore if they say
to you, Look, He is in the desert! Do not go out;
or Look, He is in the inner rooms! Do not
believe it. For as the lightning that flashes out
of one part under heaven – the east, shines to
the other part under heaven – the west, so also
will the coming of the Son of Man be
(Matt 24:26-27; Lk 17:23-24).
SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS
Immediately after the tribulation in
those days, and there will be signs: the sun will
be darkened, the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from heaven. And the powers
of heaven will be shaken (Matt 24:29; Mk 13:24-
25; Lk 21:25). And on the earth distress of
nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves

The Lord Jesus Christ is coming back to earth
very soon. This is a promise He made while
He was still in this world 2000 years ago (Jn
14:1-3). How can we really know for sure if He
will surely return? Please read the prophecies
(predictions) the Lord Jesus Himself said that
will take place in the end-times. A careful
reading of these scriptures and comparing
them with the events that are happening in
the world right now will prove that the Lord
Jesus will truly come back in our life time.
DESTRUCTION OF TEMPLE
Then Jesus went out and departed from
the temple and one of His disciples came to
Him and showed Him the buildings of the
temple. And said: Teacher, see what manner of
beautiful stones and donations have adorned
the buildings here. And Jesus said to them: As
for these great buildings which you see,
assuredly, I say to you, the days will come in
which not one stone shall be left here upon
another that shall not be thrown down
(Matt 24:1-2; Mk 13:1-2; Lk 21:5-6).
SIGNS OF THE COMING
Now as He sat on the Mount of Olive
opposite the temple, the disciples – Peter,
James, John and Andrew, came to Him and
asked privately: Teacher, tell us when will these
things be? And what will be the sign of your
coming and of the end of age when all these
things will be fulfilled? (Matt 24:3; Mk 13:3-4; Lk
21:7).
DECEIVERS WILL ARISE
Jesus answered and said to them: Take
heed that no one deceives you. For many will
come in My name saying, I am He, the Christ,
and the time has drawn near; and will deceive
many. Therefore do not go after them (Matt 24:4-
5; Mk 13:5-6; Lk 21:8).
This was
literally fulfilled in A.D. 70.

WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS
And when you hear of wars, commotions
and rumors of wars, do not be troubled –
terrified; for all these things must come to pass
first, but the end will not come immediately
(Matt 24:6; Mk 13:7; Lk 21:9).

FAMINES | DISEASES
Then He said to them: For nation will rise
against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
And there will be great earthquakes in various
places, and famines, troubles and pestilences;
and there will be fearful sights and great signs
from heaven (Matt 24:7; Mk 13:8; Lk 21:10-11).
All these are the beginning of sorrows
(Matt 24:8; Mk 13:8).
PERSECUTION FOR CHRISTIANS
But watch out, before all these things,
they will lay their hands on you and persecute
you, deliver you up to the councils and you will
be beaten in the synagogues; you will be put in
prisons, deliver you up to tribulation and kill
you. And you will be brought before kings and
rulers for My name's sake. But it will turn out
for you as an occasion for testimony (Matt 24:9;
Mk 13:9; Lk. 21:12-13).
And when they arrest you and deliver you
up, do not worry beforehand, settle it in
your hearts not to premeditate on what you will
speak or will answer. But whatever is given you
in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who
speak, but the Holy Spirit. For I will give you a
mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries
will not be able to contradict or resist (Mk 13:11;
Lk 21:14-15).
BETRAYAL IN FAMILIES
And then many will be offended. Now
brother will betray brother to death, and a
father his child, friends and relatives; and

15roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and
the expectation of those things which are
coming on the earth (Lk 21:25-26).
Then the SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN
will appear in heaven, and then all
tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see
the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven
with great power and great glory. And He will
send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet,
and they will gather together His elect from the
four winds, from the farthest part of earth and
the farthest part of heaven (Matt 24:30-31; Mk
13:26-27; Lk 21:27).
Now when these things begin to
happen, look up and lift up your heads,
because your redemption draws near (Lk 21:28).
And He spoke: Now learn this parable
from the fig tree and all trees. When its
branch has already become tender and puts
forth its leaves, you see and know for yourselves
that summer is now near. So you, likewise,
when you see all these things happening,
know that the kingdom of God is near, at the
very doors (Matt 24:32-33; Mk 13:28-29; Lk 21:29-
31). But of that day and hour no one knows, no,
not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but
the Father only (Matt 24:36; Mk 13:32).
But as the DAYS OF NOAH were so also
will the coming of the Son of Man be.
For as in the days before the flood, they were
eating and drinking, marrying and giving in
marriage, until the day that Noah entered the
ark, and did not know until the flood came and
destroyed them all, so also will the coming of
the Son of Man be (Matt 24:37-39; Lk 17:26-27).

Likewise as it was also in the DAYS OF
LOT: They ate, they drank, they
bought, they sold, they planted, and they built.
But on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it
rained fire and brimstone from heaven and
destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day
when the Son of Man is revealed (Lk 17:28-30).
Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks
to save his life will lose it, and whoever
loses his life will preserve it (Lk 17:32-33).
I tell you, in that night there will be two
men in one bed: the one will be taken
and the other will be left. Two women will be
grinding at the mill together: one will be taken
and the other left. Two men will be in the field:
one will be taken and the other left (Matt 24:40-
41; Lk 17:34-36). And they answered and said to
Him, "Where, Lord?" So He said to them, "For
wherever the body - carcass is, there the eagles
will be gathered together" (Matt 24:28; Lk 17:37).
BE WATCHFUL & PRAYERFUL
It is like a man going to a far country,
who left his house and gave authority to his
servants, to each his work, and commanded the
doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you
do not know when the Lord – the Master of the
house is coming – in the evening, at midnight,
at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning
– lest coming suddenly, he find you sleeping
(Mk 13:34-36).
But know this, if the master of the
house had known what hour the thief
would come, he would have watched and not
allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore
you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming
at an hour when you do not expect Him (Matt
24:43-44).

But take heed to yourselves, lest your
h e a r t s a r e w e i g h e d d o w n w i t h
carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life,
and that Day come on you unexpectedly. Watch
and pray; for you do not know when the time
is. For it will come as a snare on all those who
dwell on the face of the whole earth (Mk 13:33;
Lk 21:34-35).
And what I say to you, I say to all:
Watch and pray always that you may
be counted worthy to escape all these things
that will come to pass and to stand before the
Son of Man (Lk 21:36).
Assuredly, I say to you, this generation
will by no means pass away till all these
things are fulfilled. Heaven and earth will pass
away, but My words will by no means pass away
(Matt 24:34-35; Mk 13:30-31; Lk 21:32-33).

into the nations. And Jerusalem will be
trampled by Gentiles until the times of the
Gentiles are fulfilled (Lk 21:24).

TIME OF JACOB'S TROUBLE (Jer 30:6-7)
For in those days there will be great
tribulation and great distress, such as has not
been from the beginning of creation which God
created until this time, nor ever shall be in the
land and wrath upon this people. And unless
the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh
would be saved. But for the elect's sake whom
He chose, those days will be shortened (Matt
24:21-22; Mk 13:19-20; Lk 21:23). But these are the
days of vengeance, that all things which are
written may be fulfilled (Lk 21:22).
FALSE CHRISTS & PROPHETS
Then if anyone says to you, Look, here
is the Christ or Look, He is there! Do not believe
it. For false Christs and false prophets will arise
and show great signs and wonders, so as to
deceive, if possible even the elect. But take
heed; see, I have told you all things beforehand
(Matt 24:23-24; Mk 13:21-23). Therefore if they say
to you, Look, He is in the desert! Do not go out;
or Look, He is in the inner rooms! Do not
believe it. For as the lightning that flashes out
of one part under heaven – the east, shines to
the other part under heaven – the west, so also
will the coming of the Son of Man be
(Matt 24:26-27; Lk 17:23-24).
SIGNS IN THE HEAVENS
Immediately after the tribulation in
those days, and there will be signs: the sun will
be darkened, the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from heaven. And the powers
of heaven will be shaken (Matt 24:29; Mk 13:24-
25; Lk 21:25). And on the earth distress of
nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves

The Lord Jesus Christ is coming back to earth
very soon. This is a promise He made while
He was still in this world 2000 years ago (Jn
14:1-3). How can we really know for sure if He
will surely return? Please read the prophecies
(predictions) the Lord Jesus Himself said that
will take place in the end-times. A careful
reading of these scriptures and comparing
them with the events that are happening in
the world right now will prove that the Lord
Jesus will truly come back in our life time.
DESTRUCTION OF TEMPLE
Then Jesus went out and departed from
the temple and one of His disciples came to
Him and showed Him the buildings of the
temple. And said: Teacher, see what manner of
beautiful stones and donations have adorned
the buildings here. And Jesus said to them: As
for these great buildings which you see,
assuredly, I say to you, the days will come in
which not one stone shall be left here upon
another that shall not be thrown down
(Matt 24:1-2; Mk 13:1-2; Lk 21:5-6).
SIGNS OF THE COMING
Now as He sat on the Mount of Olive
opposite the temple, the disciples – Peter,
James, John and Andrew, came to Him and
asked privately: Teacher, tell us when will these
things be? And what will be the sign of your
coming and of the end of age when all these
things will be fulfilled? (Matt 24:3; Mk 13:3-4; Lk
21:7).
DECEIVERS WILL ARISE
Jesus answered and said to them: Take
heed that no one deceives you. For many will
come in My name saying, I am He, the Christ,
and the time has drawn near; and will deceive
many. Therefore do not go after them (Matt 24:4-
5; Mk 13:5-6; Lk 21:8).
This was
literally fulfilled in A.D. 70.

WARS AND RUMORS OF WARS
And when you hear of wars, commotions
and rumors of wars, do not be troubled –
terrified; for all these things must come to pass
first, but the end will not come immediately
(Matt 24:6; Mk 13:7; Lk 21:9).

FAMINES | DISEASES
Then He said to them: For nation will rise
against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
And there will be great earthquakes in various
places, and famines, troubles and pestilences;
and there will be fearful sights and great signs
from heaven (Matt 24:7; Mk 13:8; Lk 21:10-11).
All these are the beginning of sorrows
(Matt 24:8; Mk 13:8).
PERSECUTION FOR CHRISTIANS
But watch out, before all these things,
they will lay their hands on you and persecute
you, deliver you up to the councils and you will
be beaten in the synagogues; you will be put in
prisons, deliver you up to tribulation and kill
you. And you will be brought before kings and
rulers for My name's sake. But it will turn out
for you as an occasion for testimony (Matt 24:9;
Mk 13:9; Lk. 21:12-13).
And when they arrest you and deliver you
up, do not worry beforehand, settle it in
your hearts not to premeditate on what you will
speak or will answer. But whatever is given you
in that hour, speak that; for it is not you who
speak, but the Holy Spirit. For I will give you a
mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries
will not be able to contradict or resist (Mk 13:11;
Lk 21:14-15).
BETRAYAL IN FAMILIES
And then many will be offended. Now
brother will betray brother to death, and a
father his child, friends and relatives; and

15roaring; men's hearts failing them from fear and
the expectation of those things which are
coming on the earth (Lk 21:25-26).
Then the SIGN OF THE SON OF MAN
will appear in heaven, and then all
tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see
the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven
with great power and great glory. And He will
send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet,
and they will gather together His elect from the
four winds, from the farthest part of earth and
the farthest part of heaven (Matt 24:30-31; Mk
13:26-27; Lk 21:27).
Now when these things begin to
happen, look up and lift up your heads,
because your redemption draws near (Lk 21:28).
And He spoke: Now learn this parable
from the fig tree and all trees. When its
branch has already become tender and puts
forth its leaves, you see and know for yourselves
that summer is now near. So you, likewise,
when you see all these things happening,
know that the kingdom of God is near, at the
very doors (Matt 24:32-33; Mk 13:28-29; Lk 21:29-
31). But of that day and hour no one knows, no,
not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but
the Father only (Matt 24:36; Mk 13:32).
But as the DAYS OF NOAH were so also
will the coming of the Son of Man be.
For as in the days before the flood, they were
eating and drinking, marrying and giving in
marriage, until the day that Noah entered the
ark, and did not know until the flood came and
destroyed them all, so also will the coming of
the Son of Man be (Matt 24:37-39; Lk 17:26-27).

Likewise as it was also in the DAYS OF
LOT: They ate, they drank, they
bought, they sold, they planted, and they built.
But on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it
rained fire and brimstone from heaven and
destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day
when the Son of Man is revealed (Lk 17:28-30).
Remember Lot's wife. Whoever seeks
to save his life will lose it, and whoever
loses his life will preserve it (Lk 17:32-33).
I tell you, in that night there will be two
men in one bed: the one will be taken
and the other will be left. Two women will be
grinding at the mill together: one will be taken
and the other left. Two men will be in the field:
one will be taken and the other left (Matt 24:40-
41; Lk 17:34-36). And they answered and said to
Him, "Where, Lord?" So He said to them, "For
wherever the body - carcass is, there the eagles
will be gathered together" (Matt 24:28; Lk 17:37).
BE WATCHFUL & PRAYERFUL
It is like a man going to a far country,
who left his house and gave authority to his
servants, to each his work, and commanded the
doorkeeper to watch. Watch therefore, for you
do not know when the Lord – the Master of the
house is coming – in the evening, at midnight,
at the crowing of the rooster, or in the morning
– lest coming suddenly, he find you sleeping
(Mk 13:34-36).
But know this, if the master of the
house had known what hour the thief
would come, he would have watched and not
allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore
you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming
at an hour when you do not expect Him (Matt
24:43-44).

But take heed to yourselves, lest your
h e a r t s a r e w e i g h e d d o w n w i t h
carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life,
and that Day come on you unexpectedly. Watch
and pray; for you do not know when the time
is. For it will come as a snare on all those who
dwell on the face of the whole earth (Mk 13:33;
Lk 21:34-35).
And what I say to you, I say to all:
Watch and pray always that you may
be counted worthy to escape all these things
that will come to pass and to stand before the
Son of Man (Lk 21:36).
Assuredly, I say to you, this generation
will by no means pass away till all these
things are fulfilled. Heaven and earth will pass
away, but My words will by no means pass away
(Matt 24:34-35; Mk 13:30-31; Lk 21:32-33).
